Badgers Cruise Past Plymouth State, 65-57

JOHNSON, VT. – The Johnson State College women's basketball team defeated Plymouth State 65-57 in a non-conference game on Monday night in Carter Gym.

The Badgers improve to 11-12 overall on the season, while the Panthers go to 6-16.

1st Quarter

The teams stayed even through most of the first quarter, with the Badgers making a late push to take a 14-9 advantage after one. Kasey DeGreenia (Concord, Vt.) notched four points for Johnson while DeAsia Lawrence added four of her own for Plymouth.

2nd Quarter

The Panthers pulled the game back even midway through the first when a Debra Morrill layup tied the game at 20. With less than a minute left in the half and the score tied at 24, a Kaitlyn Brouard (Milton, Vt.) three followed by a Ladona Quinn (Hartford, Conn.) jumper gave the Badgers a 29-24 lead going into the break. Ashley Goddard (Jamaica, Vt.) led Johnson with five points in the quarter.

3rd Quarter

Johnson slowly pushed their lead to double-digits in the third, outscoring the Panthers 18-10 in the frame to take a 47-34 lead into the fourth. Nicole Menard (Milton, Vt.) paced Johnson with six points in the period.

4th Quarter

Johnson maintained their lead through much of the fourth quarter, leading by as much as 16 with two minutes remaining. The Panthers fought back at the end, but were unable to overcome the deficit and fell 65-57. Sarah Voorhis (Nashua, N.H.) picked up seven in the quarter for Johnson, while Leah Swanson led all scorers with 12 in the period for Plymouth State.

Johnson Leaders

DeGreenia led all players with 18 points and 17 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season. Voorhis added 13 more, with Menard tacking on 12.

Plymouth Leaders

Lawrence and Swanson each picked up 12 to lead the Panthers, while Kayla Wyland led the team with eight rebounds.

Stats Breakdown

Johnson outshot Plymouth from the field 41.7% to 28.4%, while also outshooting the Panthers 46.2% to 35.7% from beyond the arc. Plymouth held a slight edge in rebounding 45-42, while committing 16 turnovers to the Badgers 19.

Johnson will host their final regular season home game and senior night on Thursday, February 16th at 7:30 p.m. The senior night ceremony will be held immediately following the men's game at approximately 7:00 p.m.
