Badgers Take Down Eagles on Senior Night, 65-45

JOHNSON, VT. – The Johnson State College women's basketball team defeated Green Mountain College 65-45 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game on Thursday night in Carter Gym.

The Badgers improve to 12-12 overall on the season and 8-9 in the NAC, while the Eagles go to 0-22 and 0-17 in the conference.

1st Quarter

Both teams struggled scoring in the first quarter, with the Badgers holding an 8-2 lead after one. Domonique Carter-Stanley led Johnson with four points in the quarter. 

2nd Quarter

Green Mountain went on a 14-9 run over the first eight minutes to pull the Bader lead down to 17-16. The Badgers would go into the half holding on to a 21-19 lead. Mary Richardson (Vernon, Vt.) led Johnson with four points in the quarter, while Laney Trammell paced the Eagles with six.

3rd Quarter

The Badgers opened up their lead in the third quarter, outscoring Green Mountain 25-12 in the period to take a 46-31 lead into the fourth. Kasey DeGreenia (Concord, Vt.) led all scorers in the third with seven points.

4th Quarter

Johnson put the Eagles away in the fourth, outscoring the Eagles 19-14 in the quarter to take the 65-45 victory. DeGreenia led Johnson in the quarter with six points.

Johnson Leaders

DeGreenia led all players with 17 points and 17 rebounds for her tenth double-double of the season. Ashley Goddard (Jamaica, Vt.) added 13 more and seven rebounds, while Carter-Stanley added ten points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

Green Mountain Leaders

Trammell scored 14 points to lead the Eagles, with Mercedes Rideout adding 12 more. Suzanna Moses picked up a team-high 12 rebounds for Green Mountain.

Stats Breakdown

Johnson outshot Green Mountain from the field by a 31.9% to 29.5% margin. Green Mountain was better from the arc, shooting 21.4% to 15.8%. Johnson dominated the boards, outrebounding the Eagles 68-42, while forcing 22 turnovers to the Eagles 14.

Senior Celebration

In a ceremony held prior to the game, Johnson seniors Ladona Quinn (Hartford, Conn.), Carter-Stanley, DeGreenia, Nicole Menard (Milton, Vt.), Goddard and Sarah Voorhis (Nashua, N.H.), as well as Assistant Coach Haley LeCours, were recognized for playing in their final home contest at Carter Gym.

The Badgers will close out their regular season at Castleton on Saturday, February 18th in a NAC contest at 3:00 p.m.
