Badgers Fall to Spartans in Regular Season Finale, 61-44

CASTLETON, VT. – The Johnson State College women's basketball team fell to Castleton University 61-44 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game on Saturday afternoon.

The Badgers drop to 12-13 overall on the season and 8-10 in the NAC, while the Spartans go to 17-8 and 15-3 in the conference.

1st Quarter

Both teams struggled scoring in the first quarter, with the game tied at 6 after one.  

2nd Quarter

The teams stayed neck and neck through the second quarter, with the score tied 22-22 going into the intermission.

3rd Quarter

The lead was traded back and forth through the third, with Castleton coming out with a 37-33 lead going into the fourth.

4th Quarter

Castleton pulled ahead in the fourth, starting the quarter on an 11-2 run over the first three and a half minutes. Castleton went on to outscore Johnson 24-11 in the quarter and took the 61-44 victory.

Johnson Leaders

Kasey DeGreenia (Concord, Vt.) led Johnson with 12 points, while Sarah Voorhis (Nashua, N.H.) added 11 points and a team-high six rebounds.

Castleton Leaders

Alexis Quenneville led all scorers with 14 points, with Amanda Beatty tacking on 13 more and 11 rebounds.

Stats Breakdown

Castleton outshot Johnson from the field 33.9% to 30.0%, and 27.8% to 12.5% from three-point range. Castleton rebounded the Badgers 48-35, while committing 13 turnovers to Johnson's 15.

Playoff Bound

The Badgers will go into the NAC Playoffs as the six seed, and will travel to New England College on Tuesday, February 21st in the Quarterfinal Round at 7:00 p.m.
