WBB: Beavers Outlast Badgers, 61-52

JOHNSON, Vt. – The Johnson State College women's basketball team fell to UMaine-Farmington 61-52 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game on Saturday afternoon at Carter Gym.

The Badgers drop to 3-17 (2-12 NAC) on the season while the Beavers move to 6-14 (3-11 NAC).

1st QUARTER

The Beavers got out to an early lead, scoring eight points over the first two minutes of the game. Johnson went on an 11-2 run over the next seven minutes, capped by a Mariah Ramos (Lebanon, N.H.) layup, to take an 11-10 lead with a minute and a half left in the first. UMF answered back with a McKenna Brodeur layup and Kasey Talarico free throw to go up 13-11 after one.

2nd QUARTER

The Beavers slowly built their advantage through the second frame, with two Paige Carter free throws with 1:34 remaining giving UMF a 26-14 lead after a 13-3 run. Two Jocelyn Pellerin three-pointers in the final minute brought the Badgers back within six, as the Beavers took a 26-20 edge into the break.

3rd QUARTER

UMF once again added to their lead early in the quarter, going up by as much as 16 with a 44-28 advantage two minutes left in the third. Ramos hit a jump shot with just under two minutes left and, following two made free throws by Sabrina Roberge (Irasburg, Vt.), nailed a three to cut the Beaver lead back to single-digits, as they took a 44-35 lead into the final quarter.  

4th QUARTER

The teams traded baskets through the fourth quarter, but the Badger were unable to overcome the deficit and fell 61-52.
