JOHNSON, Vt. – The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's basketball team fell to Vermont Technical College 81-72 in their home opener and second game in the first annual NVU Tip Off Classic on Thursday night. The Badgers begin their season 0-1 while the Knights move to 1-2. Johnson was led by junior Lindsey LaPerle (Bethel, VT) with 21 points.
1ST QUARTER
The teams traded baskets in the early minutes of the quarter before the Knights extended their lead to seven points. The Badgers fought back and closed the gap to 20-17 in favor of the Knights entering the second quarter.
2ND QUARTER
VTC went on a quick 8-0 run to start the second half, led by Jordanna Morris. The Badgers' Mariah Ramos (West Hartford, VT) put a stop to their initial run with a made three point shot, but it was all VTC through the rest of the first half as they extended their lead to 39-27 at half.
3RD QUARTER
Vermont Tech extended their lead to 18 early in the third quarter before the Badgers battled back in a balanced effort and went on a 14-8 run to close the quarter. The Knights held a nine point lead heading into the fourth quarter.
4TH QUARTER
Johnson continued to chip away at Vermont Tech's lead, receiving points from LaPerle, sophomore Ellery Kiefer (Wayland, MA), and senior Kaitlyn Brouard (Milton, VT) to put the Badgers within one point. The Knights' Morris took over the game and put up 11 points in the final five minutes of play in her 38 point performance. The Knights emerged with their first victory of the season, 81-72.
