WBB: Second Half Surge Pushes Thomas Past Johnson, 75-50

WATERVILLE, ME – The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's basketball team was defeated by Thomas College 75-50 in their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup on Saturday afternoon. Johnson moves to 1-8 overall and 0-4 in NAC play in the defeat, while Thomas improves to 3-8 overall and 2-2 in the NAC. 

Johnson was led by senior forward Mariah Ramos (Lebanon, NH) with 13 points and six rebounds. Junior guard Lindsey LaPerle (Bethel, VT) had 10 points for the Badgers.

Thomas' Kaylee Ravagli led the Terriers with 17 points on 5-9 shooting from behind the arc. Ravagli also had six steals and four rebounds in the effort. The Terriers also received 15 points and six rebounds from Addie Brinkman and 11 points and 5 rebounds from Karli Stubbs.

A quartet of three-pointers and a free throw helped push the Badgers to a 13-7 lead over the Terriers in the first half of the first quarter. The Terriers battled back and buckled down their defense to hold the Badgers to two points in the remaining minutes of the quarter, taking a 15-14 lead over Johnson entering the second period. Thomas pushed the gap to extend their lead to 15 points midway through the half. Johnson capitalized on key free throw opportunities and layups to fight back to a 26-24 lead entering the second half. 

Thomas came out of the locker room fighting, outscoring the Badgers 13-2 in the opening minutes of the third quarter. Johnson used a balanced offensive attack to shrink the Terriers' lead to five with a minute remaining before key shots by Thomas pushed their lead to 10 entering the final stanza. The Terriers continued their offensive barrage in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach for the Badgers. Thomas came away with the 75-50 victory.

The Terriers edged Johnson in shooting percentage as they shot 42.6% from the field compared to Johnson's 30.8%. The Badgers out-rebounded Thomas College 41-35 in the defeat.

The Badgers will travel to Norwich University on Tuesday, December 11th for a non-conference matchup. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:00pm with the men's contest following at 7:00pm.
