Panthers Pressure Slow Down Badgers in Non Conference Game

JOHNSON, Vt.- The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's basketball team dropped a non-conference game to Plymouth State University on Tuesday evening. The Panthers beat the Badgers by a score of 60-50.

The Badgers were led by freshman Alexandra Barry (Hopewell Jct, NY) who scored a team high 11 points. Melissaann Clark (Philadelphia, PA) came off the bench for the Badgers and scored a career high 10 points. Mariah Ramos (Lebanon, NH) added nine points but led all players in rebounds with 12.

The Badgers fell short early as the Panthers started the game on a commanding 17-5 push. Despite the slow start for the Badgers, an offensive attack that led to two free throws from Amorette Rodriquez (Downey, CA) and a made three by Melissa Ann Clark brought the Badgers within seven closing out the first quarter.

In the second quarter the Badgers had a more balanced attack scoring 17 points. Devin Libby (Burlington, Vt.) and Barry and Lindsey Laperle (Bethel, Vt.) added a scoring punch for the Badgers going on a 7-0 run after the Panthers started the quarter having a 7-0 run of their own. The Badgers ended the half down 34-27.

In the second half the Badgers struggled to score as they only produced seven points to the Panthers 12. In the final stint of the game the Badgers were aggressive and regained some life as they took the quarter by a score of 16-14.

The Panthers had three players in double figures and were led by Jess Conant who lead the way with a game high 15 points. Debra Morrill and Cassidy Emerson both chipped in ten points apiece for the Panthers.

With the loss the Badgers fall to 2-14 overall and the Panthers improve to 7-9.

The Badgers are set to host Northern Vermont University-Lyndon this Saturday, January 19 at 3:00pm.
