WBB: Johnson Dropped by SUNY Canton, 70-56

CANTON, NY — The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's basketball team was defeated by SUNY Canton by a score of 70-56 on Saturday afternoon. The Badgers fall to 2-17 overall and 0-9 in North Atlantic Conference play. 

The Badgers were led by freshman Amorette Rodriquez (Downey, CA) who scored a career-high 20 points in an impressive three point shooting performance, going 6-10 from behind the arc. Mariah Ramos (Lebanon, NH) tallied 16 points and four rebounds. The Kangaroos were led by Anastasia Chambers, who was one steal shy of a triple-double performance, tallying 17 points, 10 rebounds, and nine steals. The Kangaroos received a team-high 19 points from Jenifer Morgan-Aubin.

SUNY Canton opened up the game with two quick baskets before Rodriquez answered with her first three-point shot of the contest. The teams continued to trade baskets through the opening minutes, but the Kangaroos maintained the lead until a made-three by Kaitlyn Brouard (Milton, VT) forced the 10-10 tie. Close through the final minute of the game as Rodriquez went 3-3 from behind the arc, the Kangaroos were boosted by Chambers in the final 22 seconds of the quarter, sinking a three-point shot just before the final buzzer, extending the Kangaroos' lead to 21-14. 

The Badgers battled throughout the second quarter, cutting the deficit to four points with 1:20 remaining. Jenifer Morgan-Aubin led the Kangaroos in the final minute of play, scoring six points to give a 40-30 lead over the Badgers at halftime. 

The Kangaroos controlled the pace offensively in the second half, extending their lead to 24 points early in the fourth quarter. The Badgers found their rhythm late in the period and ran out of time, falling by a score of 70-56.
