Badgers Fall in NAC Play

JOHNSON, Vt.- The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's basketball team fell to the University of Maine Presque Isle by a score of 67-59 on Friday evening.

 

The Badgers were led by senior Mariah Ramos (Lebanon NH). Ramos poured in a game high 23 points on 9-17 shooting and collected six rebounds on the evening. Lindsey LaPerle (Bethel, Vt.) scored 19 points for the Badgers.

 The Owls jumped out to an early 6-0 lead by made three-point attempts from both Hunter Mercier and Rhylee Wright. Quickly, the Badgers closed the gap and tied the game at six. Throughout most of the first quarter the Owls mad small runs and the Badgers countered with an attack of their own. After the first quarter the Owls took a slight 12-9 lead. The Owls were much stronger in the second quarter scoring 20 points and only holding the Badgers to 12 points. 

 Headed into halftime the Owls took a 32-21 lead. Coming out of the break the Badgers looked to be more aggressive and capitalized on their offensive opportunities. Ramos recorded eight points in the third stint while LaPerle recorded seven. It was even scoring throughout the third quarter. Rhylee Wright opened up the quarter attacking the basket scoring the first bucket of the half. After failed attempts by both sides the Badgers went on a 7-0 run of their own led by LaPerle who scored five of the seven points. Both teams poured in twenty points each to end the quarter. 

 

In the final quarter of the contest the Badgers made a final push to close the deficit. Ramos recorded six points in the quarter and the Badgers outscored the Owls 18-15. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough, and the Badgers fell in the NAC game. With the loss the Badgers fall to 2-20 on the year and 0-12 in NAC play. The Owls improve to 8-15 overall and 3-10 in conference play.
