JOHNSON, Vt.- Hannah Angolano, a product of Jericho, Vermont and Mount Mansfield Union High School has committed to Head Coach Greg Eckman and the Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's basketball program.
Hannah Angolano has signed the necessary paperwork and will be a member of the NVU-Johnson women's basketball program for the 2019-2020 season. Coach Eckman is happy to welcome Hannah to the Badger family. "It is with great joy and excited we welcome Hannah to the Johnson women's basketball family. Hannah is a strong shooter who will play the guard position for us next season. Hannah, like all of our incoming players have a great love for the game of basketball, put in a lot of effort in the offseason and truly enjoy being around the game."
Northern Vermont University-Johnson isn't what you would consider a new environment for Angolano. Hannah has participated in Greg Eckman's camps since her younger playing days. Hannah believes Johnson is the right fit for her on and off the playing surface. "I've always admired Johnson", Said Angolano. "It has a beautiful campus in both the summer and the winter, and the campus is small enough where you can have personal relationships with your professors and they can know what type of student I am. Everyone seems extremely friendly and welcoming to the school, and I really look forward to attending in the Fall".
Pursuing a degree in Mathematics and Education will allow Hannah to follow her dream of becoming a teacher and basketball coach after college. "I'm planning on studying Mathematics and Education with the intention of becoming a math teacher and a coach".
On the court, Hannah is excited to surround herself with a group that has the same passion and level of commitment that she does. "I'm very excited to play for Coach Eckman. Ever since I went to his basketball camp in the sixth grade I wanted to be one of his players. All the girls looked like they were having a lot of fun and he seemed to have really good relationships with all of them. I'm excited to meet new people from around the country and play basketball with people who enjoy it as much as I do. It will be nice to play with people that share the same passion for the game that I do".
MMU Varsity Girls Coach Mark Pfaff thinks Hannah's personality and commitment to the sport will provide a smooth transition to the college level. "Hannah does the "right things" both on and off the court. She is level headed, mature and organized and constantly puts herself second to the needs of the group."
The Vermont Basketball Coaches Association (VBCA) awarded Hannah last week with their annual Tristin Southworth Award. The award is a $500 scholarship given to a student- athlete who best mirrors the depth of character, commitment, loyalty and service to team, school, community and country. The award is presented to a rare student/athlete who stands above the other exceptionally gifted players. Tristan was deployed to Afghanistan in early 2010 where he was killed in the line of duty.
Hannah is the fifth player and the second from the state of Vermont to commit to the Badgers for the 2019-2020 season.
