Women's Basketball Drops a Non-Conference Game to Rivier

LYNDONVILLE, Vt.- The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's basketball team were edged by Rivier University in their final game of the NVU Tip-Off Classic hosted by Northern Vermont University-Lyndon. The Badgers dropped the contest by a score of 73-62.

Lindsey LaPerle lead NVU-Johnson and scored a team high 17 points off the bench for the Badgers. Sophomore guard Amorette Rodriguez score 11 points and seven rebounds and freshman Kiana Johnson contributed ten points, six steals and six boards. The Badgers took the early lead going on an initial 10-4 run. An attack by Rivier's Arianna Motivala resulted in a Badger foul. Motivala sak both free throws to bring the deficit to one point. River continued to have a strong attack and sank a three of their own to take their first lead of the contest with only nineteen second remaining in the first period.

In the second period Rivier struck first but the Badgers quickly answered with baskets from newcomer Klaire Ware and a LaPerle basket from behind the arc. Rivier went on an 11-4 run to open up the lead in the second quarter and the Badgers worked to chip away at the deficit but went into the half trailing by a score of 49-29.

In the third quarter it was NVU-Johnson who dominated winning the quarter by a score of 21-13 and they carried that composure into the final quarter and edged out Rivier 12-11 but struggled to even the deficit. 

With the loss the Badgers drop to 0-2 on the season and will head to Plymouth State University for a non-conference game against the Panthers on Tuesday, November 12. Tip-off is set for 5:30pm.
