Badgers Fall at Plymouth State in Non-Conference Action

PLYMOUTH, NH —  Despite a career-high night from two Badgers on Tuesday evening the Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's basketball team was unable to close an early deficit, falling 76-59 to the Panthers of Plymouth State University. 

Senior Lindsey LaPerle posted a career high 20 points and added five rebounds and three assists in her effort off the bench for the Badgers. Ellery Kiefer went 7-8 from the field and 4-7 from the from the charity stripe to tally a career high 18 points and six rebounds. Freshman Kiana Johnson added 11 points and eight rebounds.

A slow start for the Badgers led to an early 0-12 deficit in the first quarter. NVU-Johnson recovered but the Panthers led 25-14 entering the second stanza. Kiefer and LaPerle provided a spark for the Badgers' offense as they combined for 21 points in an effort that caused the Panthers lead to shrink to three points. Despite outscoring the Panthers 18-14 in the second quarter, the Badgers faced a seven point deficit entering halftime.

An early three point shot by Amorette Rodriguez brought the Badgers within six points. Despite a trio of three-pointers by the Badgers in the third quarter and Kiana Johnson going 4-5 from the field, the Panthers had an answer for every basket scored. Plymouth maintained a single-digit lead over the Badgers throughout most of the third quarter and NVU-Johnson was unable to even the deficit in the final frame.

With the loss, the Badgers move to 0-3 in the season. The women's basketball team will host Lasell College on Saturday, November 16th at 2:00pm for a non-conference matchup at Carter Gymnasium.
