Women's Basketball Drop Non-Conference Contest to Blue Jays

JOHNSON, Vt.-The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's basketball team hosted the St.Joseph (CT) Blue Jays in the first game from the holiday break. The Badgers were edged late in the contest and dropped the non-conference game to the Blue Jays by a score of 79-52.

Freshman Kiana Johnson led the Badgers with a team high 13 points shooting 6-11 from the field. Johnson added four steals and three boards for the contest. Lindsey LaPerle and Halie Tillotson each contributed eight points while Tillotson grabbed a team high seven rebounds.

It was back and forth in the first stint of action as the Blue Jays kept the upper hand by a score of 14-9. With time winding down in the period Johnson turned over the Blue Jay front court and cut the deficit to just three points. The Blue Jays closed out the second period leading the Badgers by a score of 36-26 off of impressive performance by Silvana Barcomb who scored eight of her ten points in the first half. 

The Blue Jays continued their attacking ways in the third period and outscored in Badgers 22-11. In the final period of action, the Badgers opened up the quarter off a field goal by Tillotson. Devyn Thompson and Amorette Rodriquez up tempo attack got the Badgers to the bonus early in the quarter but it wasn't enough as the Blue Jays capitalized and earned the win by a score of 79-52.

With the loss the Badgers drop to 0-10 on the season and the Blue Jays improve to 7-4 on the year. Women's basketball is set to host SUNY Delhi tomorrow at 3:00pm.
