Wardell Career Night Not Enough In Badger Loss

JOHNSON, Vt.-The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's basketball program was back in Carter Gym on Wednesday night in a rematch against Norwich University. The Badgers dropped the contest by a score of 80-46.

Tonight's contest was the 44thtime both teams have faced off in program history. Newcomer Gabriella Wardwell scored a career high 16 points while pulling down a career high 17 rebounds. The 17 boards is third most in program history for a single game. Ellery Kiefer added 12 points and three boards, while Melissaann Clark and Alexandra Barry both added five points. 

The Cadets opened up an early 14-5 run in the first stint of action and controlled the pace to take a demanding 38-19 lead through the first half. Kiefer came out in the opening minutes of the third period scoring back to back buckets and earning two shots from the charity stripe before the Cadets would go on a 10-0 run of their own that pushed the lead past twenty points and would remain in control throughout regulation earning the win. 

The Cadets were victorious in the turnover battle as their defense forced 27 turnovers while only giving the ball back five times which resulted in the Cadets earning 28 points off turnovers. 

With the loss the Badgers move to 0-5 on the season and Norwich University improves to 2-0. Women's basketball hits the road this Friday as they will travel to Clarkson University for the first matchup of the season.
