Badgers Collect First Ever NAC Win

Johnson's Kylie Aither acted as play maker while Nichole Weeks played the part of finsher as the duo teamed up for nine points in the Badgers' 9-4 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over Green Mountain College as Johnson State College picks up its first ever NAC victory in its inaugural season.

Despite cool temperatures to start the game, Johnson (2-2, 1-1, NAC) came out firing, netting three goals within the first five and a half minutes of play to take an early 3-0 lead.

Weeks opened the scoring at the 27:55 mark when she converted a pass from Jillian Lopez past the Eagles' keeper Casey Sharp. Just over two minutes later, Aither set up an open Shannon Rooney who fired a shot into the back of the cage. The third goal came just 26 seconds later as Danielle Mayo ripped a free position shot home, her fourth goal of the year.

Green Mountain (1-3, 0-1 NAC) got on the board at the 15:29 mark when Rebecca Girouard was awarded a free position attempt and made no mistake, potting her fourth goal of the year. Martha Howe trimmed the lead to 3-2 on her fifth goal this season as she put back her own rebound through the wickets of the Badgers' goalie.

Weeks closed out the scoring in the first half as she converted on a free position attempt which put Johnson on the positive side of a 4-2 score at halftime.

Both teams tightened up defensively heading into the second half and it wasn't until Rooney and Weeks scored the first two goals after 20 minutes of play to give the Badgers' a 6-2 lead.

GMC's Rachel Aramburu scored her eighth of the season on a nifty bounce shot into the top corner after receiving a pass from Catie Brewster. Brewster hit a streaking Aramburu with a pass from behind the net as Aramburu was being challenged by the Johnson defense.

Johnson iced the game with three consecutive goals after Aramburu's marker. Lindsay Flectcher scored the first of the three goals with her first career goal, while Weeks notched her 12th and 13th goals of the season.

Brewster finished off the game's scoring for GMC when she netted her 11th goal of the year on an unassisted effort on a nice crease dive.

Johnson outshot Green Mountain 25-19 and beat the Eagles on the ground, collecting 23 groundballs to their 16.

Samantha Jankowski picked up her second win of the season in net for JSC by making seven saves, while Sharp dropped to 1-3 on the year with eight stops in a losing effort for the Eagles.

Green Mountain will play next on Friday against Maine Maritime at 5:30 p.m. in a game which will be played at Spartan Stadium at Castleton. Johnson will return to the field on Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. to face Thomas at Norwich University.
