Pilgrims Stop Badgers in 18-9 Victory

New England College senior attack Jacquelyn Lane netted her 100th career points finishing the game with seven goals and two assists to lead the Pilgrims past the visiting Johnson State College Badgers 18-9 in women's lacrosse action Tuesday afternoon.

With the win the Pilgrims improve to 3-9 overall and 2-2 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play.  The loss drops the Badgers to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the NAC.

Johnson would strike first as Nichole Weeks would net an unassisted goal just two minutes into the action.  NEC would respond with four straight goals, including two by Gabriella Bigos and two by Allison Granata, giving the Pilgrims the 4-1 lead with just 13 on the clock.  Johnson would get another  score from Weeks at the 12 minute mark but NEC would finish the half with six unanswered, including two more scores by Granata and two by Lane, to head into halftime up 10-2.

The two teams would exchange scores through the opening minutes of the second half as NEC would be up 12-5 with 26:18 left to play.  The Pilgrims would extend their lead up 18-7 with 11 minutes on the clock.  The Badgers would net the final two scores of the game but it would not be enough as the Pilgrims would eventually cruise to the 18-9 victory.

In addition to Lane the Pilgrims were led by Allison Granata who finished with five goals and two assists, while Gabriella Bigos finished with four goals and four assists.

Johnson was led by Nichole Weeks who notched five goals and Kylie Aither who scored two goals and dished out an assist.

NEC finished the game out shooting Johnson 50-28 and held the 29-11 advantage in ground balls.

Picking up the win in net for NEC was Mackenzie Meegan who recorded five saves.  In goal for Johnson was Samantha Jankowski who finished with an impressive 23 saves.

NEC returns to action on Saturday, April 11 when they travel to take on conference opponent Husson University. Johnson will hit the field again on Thursday, April 9 when they travel to take on nonconference opponent MCLA.
