Badgers Drop Non-Conference Tilt to Norwich

The Norwich University women's lacrosse team downed Johnson State 20-1 on Monday night in non-conference action behind career-high eight goals from senior Gina Conroy.

Conroy scored eight goals and dished out two assists for a 10-point night. Her eight goals fell just one shy of tying Grace Fitzpatrick's single-game program-record nine goals.

Senior Hope Royce netted a hat trick, while sophomore Meaghan Albert had two goals and four assists to help lead the Norwich offense.

After a scoreless first seven minutes, Royce and Conroy each scored their first goal of the night to take a 2-0 lead. Johnson State (2-4) answered back with a goal from Kylie Aither to cut the deficit to 2-1 at the 9:35 mark of the first half.

Royce notched her second of the night just 41 seconds later to make it 3-1 Norwich. Conroy then took over scoring three straight to stretch the lead to 6-1. The Cadets added seven more goals before the halftime whistle to take a 13-1 lead into halftime.

Sophomore Chapel Guarnieri  also recorded two goals and two assists for four points, while senior Emma Smith notched two goals as well.

Junior Courtney Hudson  picked up the victory after making three saves in the first half. Senior Irene Okubo was a perfect 3-for-3 on saves in the second half in relief of Hudson.

Larissa Gokey, Teresa Segreti and Holly Lutz each added one goal for Norwich as well.

Norwich improved to 3-4 on the season and will travel to Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Wednesday for a GNAC matchup while Johnson will face NEC in a North Atlantic Conference match-up on Tuesday, the 7th at 5:00pm.
