Castleton Earns Decisive 20-3 Victory

The Spartans cruised to a 20-3 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Johnson State College. With the loss, the Badgers slide to 2-10 on the year and 1-7 in conference play while the Spartans advance to 13-2 overall and 8-0 in the NAC. 

The Badgers saw one goal a piece from Kylie Aither, Shannon Larkin and Nichole Weeks while Castleton used a balanced attack that had 12 different players record a point. Senior Kate Auer led the offense with five goals, one assist and five draw controls.

Castleton came out hot, scoring six times in the opening few minutes. The Badgers got on the board with a pair of goals just 20 seconds apart, but the Spartans outscored Johnson St. 3-1 over the last 14 minutes of the half. 

Castleton's Brandi Whittemore led off scoring 1:39 into the second half while Maddy DaCosta extended the lead to 12-3 at 28:04. Kate Auer scored 15 seconds later for the 10-goal lead and Castleton added seven more goals in the final 26 minutes for the 17-goal victory. 

The Spartans finished with a 32-13 shot advantage in shots and Meghan Els earned her eighth win of the season by making seven saves and allowing just three goals. Samantha Jankowski took the loss while making seven saves to fall to 2-10. 

The Badgers will return to action on Sunday when they host non-conference opponent Wheelock College while the Spartans return to action on Tuesday when they conclude their regular season by hosting Keene St. at 7 pm.
