Pioneers Roll Past Badgers

The Smith College women's lacrosse team matched their win total from last season with their 18-3 win over Johnson State Saturday afternoon in non-conference action. The Pioneers improve to 4-3 overall, while the Badgers drop to 0-2.

Smith scored the game's first 11 goals, opening a 6-0 lead in the first ten minutes of the contest and never looked back. During that 11-0 stretch, sophomore Julia Hamilton scored four goals and senior Ray Silverie found the back of the net three times. 

Nichole Weeks put Johnson State on the board with her tally at the 6:07 mark in the first half and her second of the game in the opening minutes of the second period.

Hamilton led the Pioneers with five goals, while Silveria and Katie Christensen each finished with a hat trick. Senior defender Bethany Claps  saw some time playing offense and scored her first two goals of the season. Chloe Harris  finished with a game-high seven ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Weeks led the Badgers with two goals, five ground balls and two caused turnovers. 


Sarah Price earned the win for the Pioneers, making four saves and allowed just one goal in 30 minutes of work. Moira Anderson played the second half for the Pioneers and recorded two stops. On the other end, Julia Collins had a busy day in the net, finishing with six saves. 

Smith begins conference play when the Pioneers host Wheaton College Wednesday, March 30 at 5:30 p.m. Johnson will host MCLA on Thursday, March 31st at 4:00pm.
