NORTHFIELD, VT. – The Johnson State College women's lacrosse team fell to Norwich University 23-3 in their season opener on Wednesday afternoon.
The Badgers start the season 0-1 while Norwich goes to 1-0.
1ST Half
Norwich picked up the first two goals of the game in the first minute and twelve seconds. The Badgers answered right back with a goal by Nicole Weeks (Barre, Vt.). Norwich went on a 14-1 run to close out the half, with Weeks picking up the lone Johnson goal of the stretch. The Cadets took a 17-2 lead into the break.
2nd Half
Norwich scored two goals in the first four minutes of the second. Johnson answered under two minutes later with Weeks third goal of the game. Norwich added three more goals over the final twenty minutes to take the 23-3 victory.
Goalkeepers
Lawson Hayes picked up the victory in net for the Cadets, allowing two goals on two shots in the first half. She was relieved by Janice Bolton, who gave up one goal on four shots in the second half. Heatherann Esden was handed the loss, making 12 saves on 35 shots.
Stats Breakdown
Norwich picked up 14 groundballs to Johnson's 10 and won 17 of 27 draw controls. The Cadets had 13 successful clears to Johnson's 6, while outshooting the Badgers 40-10.
