Badgers Blank Southern Vermont

The Johnson State women's soccer team won a tight 1-0 victory over Southern Vermont Saturday at the Norwich Cadet Classic. The Badgers are 1-0 on the new season.

Johnson opened the game with the first few offensive opportunities, registering six shots in the first 25 minutes.

After a scoreless first half, Johnson got some offense rolling early in the second half. Mikaela Rutter had a pair of shots over the first two minutes, both of which Southern Vermont goalkeeper Melissa Mascari had to come up with saves for.

About 18 minutes later, Casey Hutchinson netted what would prove to be the game winner.

Johnson was able to complete the clean sheet for the win, as goalkeeper Amber McCullock made four saves to earn her second first shutout of the year. Notably, Mascari turned away 20 shots in net for Southern Vermont.

The Badgers will take to the pitch again tomorrow afternoon at 3:00pm to face Norwich in their last game of the tournament.
