Johnson Downed in NAC Opener

JOHNSON, VT. – The Johnson State College women's soccer team opened their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) schedule with a 5-1 loss to Thomas College on Saturday afternoon at Minaert Field.

Johnson falls to 0-6 on the season and 0-1 in NAC play. Thomas improves to 1-0 in conference play and 1-5 overall.

SCORING

1ST Half: Kayla Bess scored the lone goal of the opening frame with under eight minutes remaining to put Thomas up 1-0 at the half.

2nd Half: Briana Stadler (Cornwall, N.Y.) scored a quick goal in the third minute of the second half to knot the game at one. Bess and the Terriers answered back with what would eventually prove to be the game winning goal in the 57th minute. The Terriers would spread three more goals throughout the second half to bring the final score to 5-1.

GOALKEEPERS

Kaila Lemmer (Barnard, Vt.) was tagged with the loss for Johnson,  allowing five goals on 13 shots. Paige Leary picked up the victory for Thomas, stopping ten of 11 shots on goal.

NEXT UP

The Badgers will have a ten-day layoff to regroup, before traveling to Green Mountain on September 27th for a NAC contest at 3:30 PM.
