Spartans Down Badgers 6-1

JOHNSON, VT. – The Johnson State College women's soccer team fell Castleton University 6-1 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) match on Tuesday afternoon at Minaert Field.

The Badgers move to 1-12 overall and 1-7 in the NAC. Castleton improves to 7-6-3 on the year and 5-1-1 in conference play.

SCORING

1st Half: Castleton scored five unanswered goals to start the half, including two each from Kiley Baran and Makenzi Bellando and one from Bronwen Hopwood. Johnson's Kylie Aither (Hyde Park, Vt.) put the Badgers on the board in the 41st minute with a goal off a set piece just outside the 18.

2nd Half: Shelby McLenithan extended Castleton's lead in the 68th after a corner kick led to a scramble in front of the Johnson net. McLenithan found the ball and chipped it in to bring the final to 6-1.

GOALKEEPERS

Danielle Schreiner (St. Albans, Vt.) was tagged with the loss for Johnson, allowing six goals on 23 shots. Jessica Binkowski stopped two shots in the win for Castleton, and was replaced by Emma Parent in the second half.

Johnson State will play their final NAC contest of the year on Saturday, October 22nd when they travel to Lyndon State for a 12:00 p.m. contest.
