WSOC: Badgers Open Season with 9-0 Victory Over Vermont Tech

JOHNSON, Vt.– The Johnson State College women's soccer team defeated Vermont Technical College 9-0 in their season opener on Friday afternoon at Minaert Field. Katherine Fish (Lake Elmore, Vt.) scored three goals while Kelsey Cauchon (Colchester, Vt.) added two more in the win.

SCORING 

1st Half: Johnson started the scoring in the third minute when Fish scored off a feed from Kylie Aither (Hyde Park, Vt.) to take a 1-0 lead. Aither scored one of her own in the 11th minute that was assisted by Shannon Rooney (Cambridge, Vt.). Cauchon picked up her first goal less than a minute later, followed by her second in the 19th minute. Aither assisted on Jaden Gray's first collegiate goal in the 26th minute, followed by a goal by Rooney in the 40th minute to close out the half.

2nd Half: Fish added her second five minutes into the second half to push the lead to 7-0. Andrea Mercer scored in the 65th minute, followed by Fish finishing the hat-trick in the final minute to bring the final score to 9-0.

GOALKEEPERS 

Kaila Lemmer (Barnard, Vt., 1-0) earned the win while not facing a shot in 60 minutes of action. Mia Blackwell (Eastham, Mass.) finished the final 30 minutes in net for the Badgers. Paige Perkins (0-1) took the loss, allowing nine goals on 31 shots for Vermont Tech.

The Badgers travel to the College of St. Joseph on Sunday afternoon for a non-conference match at 1:00 p.m.
