Badgers Defeat Hornets 1-0 In Jay Peak Inaugural Grand Opening

JAY Vt.- The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's soccer team faced off in a Northern Vermont University match up against the NVU-Lyndon Hornets at Jay Peak Resort on Wednesday afternoon. The match was the grand opening for the new turf fields at Jay Peak Resort. The Badgers defeated the Hornets 1-0.

 SCORING

1st Half- Lindsay Sanchez-Cardona (Stamford, CT) lifted the Badgers early with the first goal of the game. She scored the goal in the first minute of play to give the Badgers an early 1-0 lead. The Hornets could not find the back of the net in the first half and only had three shots on goal in the first half. Overall, the Badgers controlled the ball for most of the first half and were solid defensively to hold NVU-Lyndon scoreless.

2nd Half- In the second half the Badgers had chances to score but could not find the back of the net. Lauren Young of NVU-Lyndon was solid in the second half as she saved multiple shots on goal from the Badgers. Both Iashia Cooper (Derby, CT) and Jordan Pelland (Jericho, Vt.) had 2 shots on goal each for the Badgers but could not capitalize. The Hornets continued to be scrappy and find offensive opportunity but were unsuccessful with scoring a goal. 

 The Hornets outshot the Badgers 15-9 for the game. 

 GOALKEEPER

Kaitlin Boucher (Barre,Vt.) played the entire game in goal for the Badgers. Boucher collected seven saves on the day and allowed zero goals.

 UP NEXT

 The Badgers will host Pine Manor on Saturday, October 6 at 1:00pm. They will look to capture their 7th win of the season.
