Badgers Fall in Overtime to Vermont Tech

JOHNSON, VERMONT — The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's soccer team battled with the Knights of Vermont Technical College before falling 3-2 in overtime on Saturday afternoon. The Badgers had 14 shots with eight shots on net in their season opener. 

SCORING

1st Half: The Knights came out firing and Jennifer Grenier put Vermont Tech on the board less than five minutes into the match to take an early 1-0 lead. The Badgers gathered themselves and Jules Reed (Morrisville, Vt.) answered with a goal of her own off an assist by junior Jaden Gray (Clinton, ME) to tie the game at one goal each. Vermont Tech's Tucker Chapin found the back of the net in the 33rd minute to push their lead to 2-1. 

2nd Half: Johnson showed poise in the second half and it paid off for senior Andrea Mercer (Naugatuck, Conn.) as she fired in goal off a free kick to tie the game at 2-2 in the 64th minute to force the game to an overtime decision.

Overtime: Both teams fought to control the ball in the overtime period but it was the Knights who got the first shot opportunity. Kyra Becker sealed the win for Vermont Tech with 33 seconds remaining in the first overtime period as she snuck one past Johnson's Courtney Currier (Proctor, Vt.).

Courtney Currier (0-0-1) made six saves on nine shot attempts in the Badgers' loss. Vermont Tech's Ashley Thompson (1-0-0) takes the win for the Knights making six saves on eight shot attempts by the Badgers.
