Women’s Soccer Ousted by Maine Maritime

CASTINE, MAINE — The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's soccer team was defeated on the road by conference foe Maine Maritime Academy by a score of 8-0. The Badgers fall to 0-11 overall and 0-5 in North Atlantic Conference action in the loss while Maine Maritime improves to 8-2 and 5-0 in conference play.

SCORING

1st Half: The Mariners earned an early 1-0 advantage in the fourth minute of action as Kelsea Anair connected off an assist by Suzanne Wooldridge. Maine Maritime's Eryn Doiron caught fire and earned her hat trick by the 17th minute of play to extend the lead to 4-0. Johnson battled throughout the remainder of the first half but entered halftime down 5-0.

2nd Half: The Badgers defense showed strength in the second half, but Maine Maritime's Adeline Davis capitalized on a breakdown in the 68th minute to push the lead to 6-0. Goals by Beth Labbe and Emily Conway clinched an 8-0 victory for the Mariners.

GOALKEEPERS

Sophomore Jordan Pelland (Jericho, Vt.) and junior Aysha Hodgdon (Craftsbury, Vt.) split time in net for the Badgers, combining for eight saves on 16 attempts by the Mariners. Bess MacArthur (3-1) played the full 90-minutes for the Mariners and earned the win in the shutout.
