Johnson State Sweeps Lyndon 9-0

JOHNSON, VT. – The Johnson State College women's tennis team defeated Lyndon 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon on the campus of Johnson State College.

The Badgers remain perfect on the season at 3-0, while Lyndon falls to 0-3.

Doubles

Johnson State took all three doubles matches to open the contest. The team of Katerina Van Woerkom (Miami, Fla.) and Nicole Monick (Bennington, Vt.) defeated the top flight doubles pairing of Nichole Jones and Carina Alden, 8-3. Kali Covell (Hartford, Vt.) and partner Sam Kershner (Essex, Vt.) were able to hold off the team of Alexa Richard and Samantha Fisher to win second flight doubles 8-6. The Badgers' duo of Ashley Fogg (White River Junction, Vt.) and Mikayla Messier (Sheldon, Vt.) made easy work of Haley Boule and Phoebe Achinda, 8-1.

Singles

Johnson once again dominated singles play, winning all six matches. Van Woerkom took #1 singles in straight sets 6-1, 6-0. Reigning NAC Rookie of the Week Grace Page (Bennington, Vt.) also claimed a straight sets victory over Alden in number two singles with two 6-0 set victories. In third flight singles action, Jana Somero (St. Albans, Vt.) earned an 8-3 victory for the Badgers over Richard. 

Covell won her #4 singles match via retirement due to injury of the Lyndon player. Monick took fifth flight singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win, while Jordan Miller (Stowe, Vt.) claimed the final singles match with a 6-0, 6-0 win to give Johnson the sweep.

NEXT UP

Johnson will host Western New England at 1:00 PM on Sunday, September 11 in their final tune-up match before North Atlantic Conference play begins.
