Johnson Tops Conference Rival Husson 6-3

JOHNSON, Vt. - The Johnson State College women's tennis team defeated Husson University 6-3 on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, Johnson improve to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the NAC, while Husson falls to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the NAC.

Doubles

Johnson opened up the match with Katerina Van Woerkom (Miami, Fla.) and Nicole Monick (Bennington, Vt.) taking the top flight doubles pairing against Katie Pratt and Meridith Blessard, 8-4. Sarah Smith and Charlotte Bednarz took the second doubles match 8-2 but Kali Covell (Hartford, Vt.) and partner Grace Page (Bennnington, Vt.) close out the final doubles match, 8-0.

Singles

Van Woerkom earned another win in top flight action claiming a pair of wins over Blessard, 6-3 and 6-1. In second flight singles action, Smith earned a pair of 6-1 victories for the Eagles over Page. Somero claimed a straight sets victory over Bednarz in number three singles with 6-0 and 6-1 set victories.

Johnson's Covell and Hussons Kelsey Pelletier played a hard fought match in number four singles with each player winning one before Pelletier took the final pro set to earn a 2-6, 6-1, 10-7 win. Monick took fifth flight singles with a pair of 6-4 wins while Jordan Miller (Stowe, Vt.) claimed the final singles match with a 6-0, 7-5 win over Samantha Dubay.
