Badgers Defeat Thomas 7-2

STOWE, VT. – The Johnson State College women's tennis team defeated Thomas College 7-2 on Sunday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) match at Topnotch in Stowe, Vermont.  

Doubles

The Badgers took two of three doubles matches. Katherina Van Woerkom (Miami, Fla.) and Nicole Monick (Bennington, Vt.) fell first flight doubles 8-4. The team of Kali Covell (Hartford, Vt.) and Grace Page (Bennington, Vt.) took second doubles, sweeping Thomas' second team 8-0. Sam Kershner (Essex, Vt.) and Ashley Fogg (White River Junction, Vt.) won the third doubles match 8-1.

Singles

The badgers won four of the six singles matches. Van Woerkom took first flight singles 6-3, 6-0. Olivia Mora defeated Grace Page 6-3, 6-4 in second flight singles. In third singles, Jana Somero (St. Albans, Vt.) defeated Amelia Guimond 6-1, 6-3.

In fourth singles, Kali Covell dropped her first set to Mia Navarro 6-3, but battled back to take the second set, 6-0. Covell won the 10-point tie breaker 10-5 to win the match. Nicole Monick won fifth singles 6-0, 6-1, while Jordan Miller (Stowe, Vt.) swept sixth flight singles 6-0, 6-0.
