Badgers Swat Hornets 9-0

LYNDONVILLE, VT. - The Johnson State College women's tennis team defeated Lyndon State College 9-0 on Thursday afternoon in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) East Division matchup.

With the win, the Badgers improve to 6-1 overall on the season and 3-1 in NEAC East play. The Hornets drop to 0-4 in conference and 0-8 overall.

Doubles

The Badgers held a 3-0 advantage in doubles play. Johnson opened the match with Katherina Van Woerkom (Miami, Fla.) and Nicole Monick (Bennington, Vt.) taking the top flight doubles match 8-5. The Badgers' duo of Jana Somero (St. Albans, Vt.) and Mikayla Messier (Sheldon, Vt.) shutout the Hornets second flight doubles team 8-0. Ashley Fogg (White River Junction, Vt.) and Sam Kershner (Essex, Vt.) also swept their match, taking third doubles 8-0.

Singles

The Badgers finished the sweep in singles action, taking all six matches. Van Woerkom earned another win in top flight action taking the match 6-1, 6-2. Somero also claimed a straight sets victory in number two singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. In third flight singles action, Kali Covell (Hartford, Vt.) won in straight 6-0 sets.

Monick, Jordan Miller (Stowe, Vt.), and Fogg swept fourth, fifth, and sixth singles with 6-0 straight set victories for the Badgers.
