Badgers Fall to MCLA 5-4

JOHNSON, Vt. - The Johnson State College women's tennis team was defeated by MCLA 5-4 on Saturday afternoon in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) East Division Match.

Johnson falls to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the NEAC East, while MCLA improves to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

Doubles

MCLA took two of the three doubles matches. Katerina Van Woerkom (Miami, Fla.) and Nicole Monick (Bennington, Vt.) dropped the opening first flight doubles match 8-6. Jana Somero (St. Albans, Vt.) and Mikayla Messier (Sheldon, Vt.) also fell 8-6 in second flight doubles. Kali Covell (Hartford, Vt.) and Grace Page dominated third doubles 8-1 to salvage the final doubles match for the Badgers.

Singles

Each team won three of the six singles matches. Van Woerkom dropped a hard fought first flight singles match 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. In second flight singles action, Page won a back and forth match in three sets 6-0, 3-6, 6-4.  Somero dropped straight sets in third flight singles 6-1, 6-0.

Covell won fourth singles 6-3, 6-1. Monick took fifth flight singles with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win while Jordan Miller (Stowe, Vt.) fell in the final match 6-3-6, 7-6, 3-6.
