Badgers Drop Castleton in NEAC East Finale

CASTLETON, VT. – The Johnson State College women's tennis team defeated Castleton 6-3 on Saturday afternoon in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) East Division match.

The Badgers improve to 8-4 overall and 5-2 in the NEAC East, while Castleton drops to 7-5 overall and 4-3 in the NEAC East.

Doubles

The Badgers took two of three doubles matches, with the team of Katherina Van Woerkom (Miami, Fla.)  and Nicole Monick (Bennington, Vt.) picking up an 8-3 first flight doubles victory. The team of Mikayla Messier (Sheldon, Vt.) and Jana Somero (St. Albans, Vt.) took third flight doubles 8-6.

Singles

Johnson out matched Castleton in singles play, winning four of six. Van Woerkom took #1 singles in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. Grace Page (Bennington, Vt.) dropped the #2 singles match 6-2, 6-1, to Castleton's Megan Nadler. In the #3 singles match, Somero took both sets 6-4, 7-6. Kayla Zsido was able to take the #4 singles for Castleton 6-1, 6-3. Monick took the #5 singles match in split sets 1-6, 6-1, 6-0 for Johnson and Jordan Miller (Stowe, Vt.) took the final singles match 6-0, 6-1.

Johnson will travel to Curry College on Tuesday, October 4th for their final regular season match of the season at 3:30 PM.
