WTEN: Badgers Edged by MCLA 5-4

JOHNSON, Vt. – The Johnson State College women's tennis team fell to MCLA 5-4 in a North Atlantic Conference match on Saturday afternoon.

DOUBLES

MCLA (3-4, 3-2 NAC) took two of three doubles matches to start the day. The team of Kali Covell (Hartford, Vt.) and Nicole Monick (Bennington, Vt.) dropped first singles 8-0, while Grace Page (Bennington, Vt.) and Mikayla Messier (Sheldon, Vt.) lost second doubles 8-3. Ashley Fogg (White River Junction, Vt.) and Sam Kershner (Essex, Vt.) won in third doubles by a score of 8-6.

SINGLES

The teams split singles doubles to give MCLA the 5-4 edge over Johnson (3-5, 2-3 NAC). Monick dropped first singles in straight 6-1 sets, while Page fell in second singles 6-0, 6-2. Messier fell 6-4, 6-2 in third singles.

Covell took fourth flight singles with a 6-0, 6-3 win. Fogg and Kershner rounded out fifth and singles with straight set victories.
