WTEN: Johnson Takes Down Eagles in NAC Match

RUTLAND, Vt. – The Johnson State College women's tennis team defeated Green Mountain College 7-2 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) match on Wednesday afternoon.

Doubles

Johnson (4-6, 3-3 NAC) was able to take two out of three doubles from the Eagles (1-9, 0-6 NAC) before going into singles. The team of Sam Kershner (Essex, Vt.) and Nicole Monick (Bennington, Vt.) dropped their first doubles match 8-2, but the duo of Mikayla Messier (Sheldon, Vt.) and Kali Covell (Hartford, Vt.)  took second doubles 8-2. Ashley Fogg (White River Junction, Vt.) and Sarah Lind (Winooski, Vt.) rounded out doubles with an 8-1 win in the third flight.

Singles

Johnson took all but one single matches against Green Mountain. Monick took first singles with a 6-2, 6-3 score, while Covell earned a 6-1, 6-0 win in second singles. Messier dropped third singles 6-3, 6-4, but Fogg was able to take a 6-0, 6-4 win in number four singles.

Kershner picked up a win in fifth singles with straight 6-0 sets, while Iris Serrano (Stowe, Vt.) took an 8-0 pro set victory in sixth singles.
