WTEN: Johnson Falls in NAC Finale

JOHNSON, Vt. – The Johnson State College women's tennis team fell to Castleton University 8-1 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) match on Saturday afternoon.

Doubles

Castleton (9-4, 6-1 NAC) was able to take all three doubles from the Badgers (5-7, 3-4 NAC). The team of Sam Kershner (Essex, Vt.) and Nicole Monick (Bennington, Vt.) dropped their first doubles match 8-5, while the duo of Mikayla Messier (Sheldon, Vt.) and Kali Covell (Hartford, Vt.)  fell in second doubles 8-6. Ashley Fogg (White River Junction, Vt.) and Grace Page (Bennington, Vt.) rounded out doubles with an 8-4 loss in the third flight.

Singles

The Spartans took all but one singles match over Johnson. Monick dropped first singles 6-0, 6-1, while Covell fell 6-4, 6-0 in second singles. Page dropped third singles in a tight 7-6, 6-2 match.

Messie dropped a pair of 6-4 sets in fourth singles. Fogg picked up Johnson's lone point of the day with a 6-2, 6-3 win in fifth singles, while Kershner rounded out the day with a 6-1, 7-5 loss in sixth singles.

Senior Celebration

Prior to the match, seniors Covell, Fogg, Sarah Lind (Winooski, Vt.), Messier and Monick were honored for playing in their final home match.
