LYNDONVILLE, Vt.-The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's tennis team faced off against rival NVU-Lyndon in a non-conference match on Thursday evening. The Badgers were edged by the Hornets by a score of 5-4.
DOUBLES
The Badgers No. 1 doubles team Grace Page and Samantha Kershner started strong taking the first doubles match of the evening by a score of 8-3 over NVU-Lyndon's Roze Yar and Emilie Dube. With the Badgers off to a strong start it was Iris Serrano and Kayla Hammond representing Johnson in No. 2 doubles. The duo faced Savannah Jackson and Faibe Achinda and dropped the doubles match by a score of 8-2. In the final doubles match of the evening it was Kristen Tirrito and Sarah Sylvain against NVU-Lyndon's Oo Mai Be and Susmita Managar. The Hornets edged the Badgers in the final stint by a score of 8-5.
SINGLES
It was an even split in singles action, Page competed in No. 1 singles against Dube and came out with the win by a score of 6-3, 6-0. Kershner and Serrano both capitalized in No. 2 and No. 3 singles as well to give the Badgers the 4-2 lead headed into the last three singles matches. Kershner won by a score of 6-0, 6-0 and Serrano capitalized in the deciding set to outlast Jackson from NVU-Lyndon. The Hornets eventually came together and took the final three singles matches over the Badgers Hammond, Tirrito and Sylvain.
With the loss the Badgers fall to 0-2 on the season and the Hornets improve to 1-1 overall.
