Badgers Struggle in Non-Conference Action

PLYMOUTH, N.H.- The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's tennis team traveled to Plymouth State University on Monday afternoon to face the Panthers in a non-conference match. The Badgers dropped the match by a score of 9-0.

 

DOUBLES

Samantha Kershner and Kayla Hammond competed in No. 1 doubles against the Plymouth State duo of Kira Winter and Megan Marshall. Winter and Marshall earned the win by a score of 8-0. Iris Serrano and Kristen Tirrito represented the Badgers in No. 2 and dropped their match by a score of 8-0 to Kerstin Venincasa and Jenna Sundquist by a score of 8-0. The Panthers controlled the final doubles match as Julie Miller and Brie Hada beat out Katelyn Tirrito and Sarah Sylvain by a score of 8-0.

SINGLES

Kershner and McCarthy faced off in the open match of singles play. McCarthy was impressive ousting Kershner by a score of 6-0, 6-0. The Panthers controlled singles action taking the second and third matches by scores of 6-1, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-2. In No.4 doubles it was Hada that won by a score of 6-0, 6-0. Tirrito started strong in No. 5 singles but Bettancourt came back to take the match by a score of 6-3, 6-1. Sylvain fell in the final singles match to Smith by a score of 6-3, 6-1

With the loss the Badgers move to 0-7 on the year.

UP NEXT

Women's Tennis will travel to Thomas College on Saturday, September 21 to compete in conference play. The match is set to begin at 1:00pm.
