Women's Tennis Oust Terriers in NAC Play

WATERVILLE, ME- The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's tennis team earned their first win of the season by a score of 6-3 over Thomas College on Saturday afternoon.

DOUBLES

Senior Grace Page and Junior Kristen Tirrito represented the Badgers in No. 1 doubles against the Terrier duo of Alexis Nestor and Magan Williams. Nestor and Williams captured the win by a score of 8-1. It was NVU-Johnson who controlled the remaining doubles matches, Samantha Kershner and teammate Kayla Hammond beat out Cassidy Hamm and Taylor Davis in No. 2 doubles by a score of 8-6. The Badgers closed out the final doubles match winning by a score of 8-3 as Iris Serrano and Sarah Sylvain captured the win over the Terrier's Makayla Guerette and Abigail Stevens.

SINGLES

Page set the tone early for the Badgers in singles play by taking No. 1 singles over Nestor by a score of 6-1, 6-1. Thomas captured No. 2 singles as Williams beat Kershner 6-4, 6-3. Hammond dropped No. 3 singles in a deciding set and Serrano, Tirrito took No. 4 and No. 5 singles and Katelyn Tirrito took the remaining single match over Guerette by a score of 6-2, 6-2 to capture the 6-3 win.

With the win the Badgers move to 1-7 on the season and 1-2 in North Atlantic Conference action.
