TRIATHLON: Johnson Victorious, named West Regional Division III Champions

LONGMONT, COLORADO — The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's triathlon team emerged as the DIII NCAA West Regional Champions on Sunday afternoon. The team competed at the Oktoberfest Triathlon event where the athletes participated in a half-mile swim, biked 12.9 miles, and completed the race with a 3.1 mile run. 

RESULTS

Senior Margaret Connelly (Mclean, VA) led the way for the Badgers, completing the event in 1:13:54 to finish 22nd in the women's NCAA category. Connelly cracked the top twenty in both the running and biking portions of the race, coming in 17th and 20th with times of 23:38 and 36:54. 

Sophomore Ellery Kiefer (Wayland, MA) had another strong performance for Johnson. Kiefer completed the race in 1:20:36 to finish 29th overall in the category. Kiefer posted a team-best time of 9:17 for the half-mile swim, finishing 20th in the category in the event. 

Senior Molly Cross (Broadalbin, NY) was a source of consistency for the Badgers as she finished 33rd overall and 33rd in two events, finishing the race in 1:30:05. Cross posted strong times of 12:48 for the swimming portion and 30:21 for running. 

Senior Ashley Wood (Queensbury, NY) followed closely behind Cross, finishing 34th overall in 1:30:46. Wood soared in the running portion of the event, completing the race in 27:57 to finish 29th in the event. She completed the bike portion of the race in 44:15 and swimming in 15:24.

The Badgers will take a break from competition as they prepare for the NCAA National Championship on Sunday, November 4th in Tempe, Arizona.
