JOHNSON, VT. – The Johnson State College volleyball team defeated Green Mountain 3-1 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) match on Wednesday night in Carter Gymnasium.
Johnson improves to 2-11 on the season and 1-1 in the NAC. Green Mountain starts their conference season 0-1 and drops to 0-6 overall.
FIRST SET
The teams battled back and forth through the entirety of the opening set, with neither able to put away from the other. Johnson ultimately came out with a 26-24 victory to take the early 1-0 lead.
SECOND SET
In the second set, the Eagles were able to keep pace with Johnson for most of the set, but the Badgers were able to pull away late and take the 25-18 win.
THIRD SET
The third set was another back and forth affair with the teams playing to a 22-22 tie late in the frame. Green Mountain was able to rally off three straight points to force the fourth set.
FOURTH SET
Johnson came out for the fourth set strong taking an early 7-0 lead. The Eagles were able to claw back, pulling the score even at 12. Johnson pulled back away in the second half of the set and took it 25-20 to secure the victory.
STATS LEADERS
The Johnson duo of Breanna Laughlin (San Jacinto, Calif.) and Kimberly Reville (Burke, N.Y.) recorded an impressive 18 and 15 kills, respectively. Reville tallied a match high ten aces, with Laughlin chipping in seven more. The Badger offense funneled through Laurel Hubbert-Severance (Hinesburg, Vt.), who recorded 32 assists.

The Badgers will travel to Castine, Maine on Saturday, October 1st for a NAC tri-match against Colby-Sawyer and Maine Maritime Academy.
