VB: Mountaineers Take Down Johnson

JOHNSON, Vt. – The Johnson State College volleyball team fell to Southern Vermont College 3-0 in a non-conference match on Wednesday evening at Carter Gym.

SET 1

Southern Vermont (5-17, 2-2 NECC) started strong with a first set win, holding Johnson (0-19, 0-5 NAC) to just four points in the opening frame.

SET 2

The Badgers took the first two points of the second set, but Southern Vermont took control to go up 9-3. The Badger rallied off three straight points following a timeout, with two aces from Kayla Atkinson (North Wolcott, Vt.), to pull the score to 9-6. The Mountaineers would go on a 16-2 run to end the set, earning a 25-8 victory.

SET 3

The Mountaineers took a quick 5-0 lead before Johnson answered back with three straight points. Southern Vermont would slowly pull away, though, and took the 25-9 win.

STATS LEADERS

Atkinson led Johnson with two kills, while Kimberly Reville (Burke, N.Y) added a kill, and seven digs. Hanna Buedinger (Vernon, Vt.) dished three assists and added five digs.

Johnson will finish their regular season at Lyndon on Saturday, October 21st with North Atlantic Conference matches against Castleton and Green Mountain.
