WVB: Badgers Sweep Lyndon for First Wins of the Season

BENNINGTON, Vt. — The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's volleyball team prevailed over Northern Vermont University-Lyndon, winning every set to go 2-0 to earn their first wins of the season and their first win since October 22, 2016. 

MATCH ONE

The Badgers traded points with the Hornets in the start of the first set before a service ace by junior Brooke Scheier (Milford, N.J.) gave Johnson the lead. The Badgers never looked back and took the first set 25-18. Johnson was dominant in the second set with solid serves by Nikola Knapova (Presov, Slovakia) and Hanna Buedinger (Vernon, Vt.), taking the set 25-8. The Badgers continued to overpower the Hornets in the third set and the Hornets were unable to stop the attack by Johnson. Johnson came away with the final set, winning 25-16.

MATCH TWO

Johnson came out strong in the first set and jumped into the lead early in the contest. The Badgers led the entire set, taking it 25-17. The teams battled throughout the majority of the second set before Johnson's attack was too strong for opposing Lyndon. Johnson walked away with the second set, taking it 25-19. The Badgers finished the day with another strong performance, beating Lyndon in the final set 25-19.

STATS LEADERS

Knapova was dominant in the first match with 10 kills. Scheier led the way for the Badgers in the second match with 13 kills. 

NEXT UP

The Badgers will travel to Green Mountain College on Saturday, September 8th to compete against Southern Vermont College and Green Mountain. The matches are set to begin at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
