WVB: Badgers Dropped by Southern Vermont, Green Mountain

POULTNEY, VT — The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's volleyball team fell to Southern Vermont College 3-0 and Green Mountain College 3-2 in matches held at Green Mountain College on Saturday afternoon.

SOUTHERN VERMONT
The Badgers opened the first set strong, taking the lead early before the Mountaineers battled back to take the first set 25-11. Johnson traded points with Southern Vermont College through the first half of the set, keeping the match within five points. The Badgers were unable to close the gap before the end of the set, dropping the set 25-19. Johnson took an early lead in the third set, but the Mountaineers fought back and took the final set 25-18.

GREEN MOUNTAIN
Johnson sparred with Green Mountain College in the first set, emerging from the match that featured a tied score eight times with a 25-22 victory. In the second set, the Badgers jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and held off the Eagles' attack, taking the second match 25-19. Green Mountain battled back and took a 25-15 victory in the third set. The fourth set was a battle between the two teams, separated by only two points for the majority of the match. Green Mountain took the fourth match 25-22 to even the score 2-2 with Johnson entering the fifth and final set. The Badgers battled hard before Green Mountain surged ahead halfway through the final set, falling to the Eagles 15-8.

STATS LEADERS
Against Southern Vermont, Nikola Knapova (Presov, Slovakia) and Brooke Scheier (Milford, N.J.) led the way for the Badgers with five kills each. Against Green Mountain, Knapova and Scheier showed strength again with 18 and 17 kills respectively.
