WVB: Johnson Dropped by Husson, Maine Maritime

LYNDONVILLE, VT — The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's volleyball team fell to Husson University and Maine Maritime in afternoon matches at Northern Vermont University-Lyndon on Saturday afternoon.

Husson

In the first set, the Badgers and Eagles traded points throughout the set but Johnson prevailed 25-22 to take an early 1-0 lead. In the second set, Johnson jumped out to an early lead before Husson rallied and dominated the rest of the set, taking it 25-12 to tie at one set each. In the third set, the teams remained competitive throughout the first half of the set before Husson broke the tie and kept the Badgers' attack at bay, winning 25-20. In the fourth and final set, the Eagles continued to overpower the Badgers, taking the set 25-15. 

Nikola Knapova (Presov, Slovakia) posted 15 kills and 15 digs in the contest. Brooke Scheier (Milford, NJ) followed with ten kills and nine digs, while Kimberly Reville (Burke, NY) and Jenna Murawski (East Burke, VT) recorded 16 digs each. Julie Van Etten added 29 assists in the match. 

Maine Maritime

In the Badgers second game of the day, they pushed the Mariners early in the final two sets. Maine Maritime pulled away with the matches, though, and came away with scores of 25-10, 25-17, and 25-17 to sweep the Badgers. Knapova was dominant for the Badgers again with 11 kills and seven digs in the contest. Van Etten posted 15 assists in her performance.

The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's volleyball team will face UMaine-Presque Isle and UMaine-Fort Kent on Saturday, October 20th. The games are slated to begin at 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
