Women's Volleyball Win Opening Match In Vermont Volleyball Classic

JOHNSON, Vt.-The Northern Vermont University-Johnson opened the 2019 season as the host of the Vermont Volleyball Classic on Friday, August 30. Their first matchup of the tournament was against NVU-Lyndon that ended in a 3-0 victory for the Badgers.

Nikola Knapova led the Badgers to convincing wins in the first match of the 2019 season. The senior recorded six kills on eight attacks while also adding six service aces. Aleesia Smith also impressed for the Badgers adding three kills and eight service aces. 

In the first set of action the Badgers started strong winning by a score of 25-13. A steady performance from freshman Mason Lores with 13 assists and 15 service aces on the day. The second set was no different, the Badgers controlled the pace and took a commanding lead early and eventually took set two by a score of 25-8.

The Hornets were led by Cassie Black and Emily Clancy who each contributed one service ace a piece. But in the final stint of action the Badgers remained in control and took the final set by a score of 25-9.

The Badgers will face Norwich University at 5:00pm for their second match of the Vermont Volleyball Classic.
