Badgers Fall to Cadets 3-1in Vermont Volleyball Classic

JOHNSON, Vt.- The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's volleyball team were edged by the Norwich Cadets in the second match of the Vermont Volleyball Classic on Friday evening. The Badgers lot the match by a score of 3-1.

Coming off a strong performance earlier in the afternoon the Badgers were challenged in the second match of the day against the Cadets. Porsche Johnson and Aleesia Smith led the way for the Badgers with 11 kills each. Senior Nikola Knapova and Freshman Ashley Emery had eight kills each. The Badgers and Cadets were neck and neck throughout the first set of action. But it was the Cadets led by Michele Zummo and Julia Schroeder that took the first set by a score of 25-21.

The Cadets kept the momentum going in the second set and ended up winning 25-19. In the third set, the Badgers re grouped and a strong performance by Mason Lores contributing a career high 34 assists propelled the Badgers to a 25-18 victory. The 34 assists by Lores is the most assists in program history for a single match.

Lores and the Badgers pushed the match to a fourth set and the Badgers worked to take a lead but the Cadets stayed composed and captured the win by a score of 25-16. Sarah Farnum paced the Cadets throughut the entire match recording 24 assists.

With the loss the Badgers fall to 1-1 on the season.
