JOHNSON, Vt.-The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's volleyball team emerged as the champions of the 2019 Vermont Volleyball Classic on Saturday afternoon beating Norwich University by a score of 3-2.
The women's volleyball team is off to the best start in program history. The Badgers emerged as the 2019 Vermont Volleyball Classic after beating Norwich in the deciding set by a score of 15-5. With the win the Badgers improve to 3-1 and it is their first time in program history beating Norwich University.
The Badgers were led by Freshman duo Ashley Emery and Porsche Johnson with four kills apiece. Senior Nikola Knapova contributed three kills, but it was the serving for the Badgers that propelled the to victory. Johnson was superior recording five service aces and setting the pace throughout the match. The Badgers fell early in the match losing the first set by a score of 25-17. They quickly bounced back taking set two and three by scores of 25-20, and 25-18 before Norwich captured the fourth set in the match forcing a final showdown. The Badgers took an early 8-3 lead and continued to be strong finishing the match on a 7-2 run to win by a score of 15-5. Mason Lores contributed 12 assists on the afternoon moving her to fourth place all-time in assists.
For Norwich, freshman Sarah Farnum continued her strong rookie campaign start with 20 assists. Michele Zummo had a team-leading six kills and 10 digs. Maggie McNeil had four kills, while Julia Schroeder had five. Marissa Perrotti Addison Hall each had three kills as well to round out the leaders for the Cadets.
