Cardinals Earn 3-0 Win Over Women's Volleyball

ROCHESTER, NY- The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's volleyball team competed against St. John Fisher College in a non-conference match on Saturday morning. The Cardinals edged the Badgers by a score of 3-0.

Freshman Porsche Johnson and Ashley Emery led the way for the Badgers in the first match of the day. Johnson posted a .357 kill percentage while recording a team high five kills. Emery followed as she added four kills and five digs.

Alea Steigerwald was the top performer in the match recording a match high 17 kills. Steigerwald came out strong and opened the lead in the first set of action for St. John Fisher. The Badgers trailed early falling behind by a score of 14-8 and eventually cruised to a 25-13 win in set number one.

The Badgers opened up the second set on a strong 4-0 run paced by Lauren Havill. A Badger service error and a run by the Cardinals evened the score at five. With the second set wire to wire it was the Cardinals that took the advantage off a strong performance from Steigerwald and back to back kills for Lauren Gilbert and closed out the set by a score of 25-15.

In the third and final set of action Mason Lores set the tone for the Badgers with a team high 17 assists. With the set even for the majority it was a kill by Johnson followed by a service ace to give them the advantage late in the set. A Badger attack error and a kill by Steigerwald earned the 25-23 win for the Cardinals.

With the loss the Badgers move to 6-6 on the season and will face Wells College at 1:00pm.
