Cardinals Beat Badgers in Straight Sets

PLATTSBURGH, NY- The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's volleyball team dropped a non-conference match on the road to Plattsburgh State University on Tuesday evening losing the match by a score of 3-0.

Lauren Havill led the Badgers with ten kills, 14 digs and one service ace. Senior Nikola Knapova added seven kills and 14 digs and Aleesia Smith added six kills for the Badgers. Mason Lores added 25 assists. 

Plattsburgh opened up the first set on a 5-1 run. A kill from freshman Ashley Emery followed by two more from Smith brought the Badgers within three points trailing 4-7. Midway through the first set the Cardinals went on a 9-1 run ignited off a kill from Michelle Simmons. The Badgers crawled back but it wasn't enough as the Cardinals eventually closed the first set winning by a score of 25-18.

Plattsburgh continued to be consistent in set number two starting off an 11-2 run. While the Badgers got the serve back on a service error, Plattsburgh State opened up a 16-3 advantage with five straight points and wound up cruising to a 25-13 victory in the second.

Both teams traded momentum and runs for most of the third set, as there were eight tie scores and four lead changes. But Plattsburgh had momentum throughout the set and closed the match in the third and final set by a score of 25-19

The Cardinals limited NVU-Johnson to -.009 hitting for the match and held the upper hand in blocks (11-4) and service aces (5-3). The Badgers finished with a 55-48 advantage in digs.

 

UP NEXT

Women's volleyball will travel to Wentworth Institute of Technology to compete in a tri-match. The team will face Salem State at 1:00pm followed by Wentworth at 3:00pm.
